This is nothing personal aimed at Purse, but the simple fact of the matter is he was rightly sent off by referee Andy Hall on Saturday and we all know there is no way that our FA would have even considered overturning the decision. I think it is fair to assume that had any club been daft enough to appeal such a red card they would have had their player facing an even longer ban for a frivolous appeal.
It's nothing new. Last season we went to Ninian Park without the suspended Micah Hyde who had been sent off against Ipswich a week earlier. On the same day as Micah saw red Cardiff's Stephen McPhail was sent off by referee Jonathan Moss for denying Colchester a goal scoring opportunity. It was clear and obvious but the FAW overturned it and he played in an important game against Burnley.
This is not right and something has to be done now to prevent this anomaly continuing. Now Cardiff, and Swansea and Wrexham for that matter, can clear off and play in their own league. That's certainly one option. But if not they must play under the same disciplinary conditions as every other club.
Maybe the FA should be having a rethink for now - if it is the FAW who overturn clear and blatant red cards then it should be the FAW who invite them to take up a place in European competition.
Time for action now - Cardiff should play by our rules or clear off.
