Austria comes back to haunt Lafferty

The club have decided not to appeal against the decision. That looks to be the correct thing to do given that the television analysts had mixed views and that by appealing we could be stretching the suspension even further.

That means a three match ban but to add to that comes another game because this is his second red card of the season, yes the nonsense in Austria during the second half of the game against Apollon Limassol.

Wiley's decision yesterday was because he considered Lafferty's challenge on Gilberto to be a reckless and high tackle endangering the safety of his opponent. The player will now miss the league games against Plymouth (h), Coventry (a), Scunthorpe (h) and West Brom (a). For the Plymouth game we will also be without Chris McCann whilst captain Steven Caldwell misses the Coventry game, both after accumulating five yellow cards.

Lafferty will next be available in five week's time for the visit of Colchester United.
