The vote was always going to be about whether his goal at Tottenham on the Saturday before Christmas would win, or whether his sensational equaliser at Man City eight days later would clinch it.
Both were outstanding goals. Probably the one at Spurs was the best of them but, to counteract that, the one at City was a point winning goal.
It was though, the best goal that won it. HIs brilliant strike at White Hart Lane won 66% of the vote whilst our second at City, coming in what has to have been his best Burnley performance so far, was in second place with a 25.3% share.
This is not the first time Barnes has won a goal vote on Clarets Mad. He was the last monthly winner last season; his goal against Wigan claiming 70.5% of the vote on that occasion.
That goal then won the goal of the season vote, with Junior Stanislas in second place for his goal in the home draw against Blackburn.
In this vote, the other six goals were nowhere, the other two from Barnes, and two each from George Boyd and Danny Ings.
Next week, after the Sunderland man of the match vote, we'll have the goal of the month vote for January.
It's been our most productive month of the season with ten goals already scored and with that one game remaining.
But for now, Barnes joins Ross Wallace with a guaranteed place in the goal of the season vote in May.
