He was offered the opportunity to return to Burnley in July for pre-season training but opted not to take up the offer, and two days before the start of the Football League season he signed a two year deal with Barnsley.
Today, however, Barnsley reported: "Barnsley Football Club can confirm midfielder Keith Treacy has left the club by mutual consent.
"The 26-year-old joined the Reds on a two-year deal as a free agent in the summer and made 16 appearances this season.
"Barnsley Football Club would like to wish Keith the best of luck in his future career."
Twelve of those appearances were in the League with six of them from the bench. He hasn't started a league game since 4th October when he was in the team that won 1-0 at Rochdale.
