Ben and Paul to Walk up for Burnley

Last updated : 27 January 2004 By Tony Scholes

Students Ben Golby and Paul Warburton (benbfc and warbie from our message board) have decided to take the club's Chief Executive Dave Edmundson’s ‘Walk up for Burnley’ literally and are set to do just that when the Clarets play Ipswich Town at home next month.

Instead of driving to the game they will instead make the journey on foot from their university base in Lancaster, leaving on Friday and staying overnight at a youth hostel.

They plan to arrive in Burnley around lunchtime coming in through Colne, Nelson and Brierfield and heading to the Bridge Bier Huis in Bank Parade for a well earned drink.

At around 1:50 p.m. they will complete the walk via Yorkshire Street and Harry Potts Way where they are expected to be met by representatives of the club.

Ben Golby told Clarets Mad: "Everyone knows the current financial state we are in, the last week has seen some new initiatives started with one aim - To raise some cash for the Clarets.

"Paul and myself want to do our bit too. As well as donating what we can afford we are going to 'Walk Up for Burnley'. Living in Lancaster this will take us some 45 miles and will mean leaving on the Friday to get to Burnley for 1.30pm on Sat 21st February to watch the Ipswich game.

All proceeds will go to Burnley Football Club, there is no cost involved for them so hopefully we can raise some much needed money."
