Last season he was named as fourth official for our tie against Liverpool and this was one of two visits to Turf Moor early in 2005 as he took charge of our first home league game against Reading, a game that ended in a goalless draw.
He’s no stranger to
Perhaps though he’ll be best remembered by Burnley fans for giving us one of the best moments on the Turf when he sent off Blackburn’s Craig Hignett, then on loan to Coventry, for gesturing at his assistant, leaving Hignett to walk two thirds the length of the pitch whilst receiving, shall we say, some comments from the stands.
Jones has always been considered something of a homer but this season he’s actually handed out more yellow cards to home players than away players. In 23 games he has handed out 75 yellow cards, 38 to home team players and 37 to away team players.
There have been three red cards too. The first of these was former Forest defender Jan-Olav Hjelde, now at
Tomorrow he will be assisted by Steve Chittenden and Steve Tincknell (both Hertfordshire) whilst the fourth official duties will be carried out by Anthony Taylor (Greater Manchester).
