Mark Yates leaves Turf Moor

Yates is returning to the club with whom he ended his playing career, and where he enjoyed a number of spells as a player. He replaces Stuart Watkiss, the former Mansfield boss, who left last month.

He joined Burnley as coach during the summer of 2004 as part of Steve Cotterill’s back room team. He had played for Steve for a number of years at Cheltenham. He even threatened to resume his Burnley career and was named as a substitute on a number of occasions although, other than a friendly against Accrington when he scored, he didn’t get onto the pitch.

His second spell with the Clarets has been even shorter than his first, he was a player for almost two seasons between 1991 and 1993 but made just nine league starts in that time.

We wish him all the best in his new role and wait to see what changes that brings to Steve’s team at Turf Moor.
