Huddersfield signed Jon Stead yesterday and manager Mark Robins, himself a striker said after capturing Paterson: "Martin represents another excellent signing to the group of forward players in the squad. In addition to his arrival, we will still be looking to add to our strike force as the summer transfer window progresses."
Significantly, Robins added: "I am a firm believer in putting round pegs in round holes and Martin has come to the club to play as a striker.
"He played three quarters of his 41 games for Burnley last season in a wide position, but his career history shows that he has flourished as a central striker and that is the role he feels is his best. I agree and he will fulfil that role for us."
Paterson signed for Burnley in June 2008 and no doubt his best season for Burnley was his first. He scored twelve league goals as we won promotion to the Premier League but it was then that problems started with injuries.
He did come back in the second half of that season, and looked in top form, but his appearances in 2010/11 and 2011/12 were only occasional because of the thigh injury that beset him.
Last season he returned to full fitness and played 39 games, not 41, and scored eight goals.
Burnley were keen to extend his Turf Moor stay but he had options and spent today at Huddersfield's training complex completing his move to our Championship rivals.
