He spent a couple of months on loan at Scunthorpe and on his return made the bench once for the home game against Queens Park Rangers. But he won't play again for Burnley this season and will hope to get some football with Notts County after which his contract at Turf Moor expires.
Howe said today: "Notts County approached us and we think it will benefit Kevin to get games at a good level. Hopefully he will go there and do well and we will follow his progress very closely.
"Notts County are a good club well managed by Paul Ince, so it's a good opportunity for Kevin to go there and hopefully get some match time under his belt."
This move can come as no surprise with former Sunderland and Wolves midfielder Alex Rae, who was his manager at Dundee, now assistant to Ince at Meadow Lane.
McDonald said he was excited about the move and looking to get some games after a disappointing season with managers coming and going.
