New deal on the way for Tom Heaton |
O'Neill was out of contract and has signed a two year deal whereas all of Trippier, Arfield and Lafferty had one year remaining on their existing deals but have now signed on until the end of the 2016/17 season.
They join Sam Vokes, who signed a new contract back in January, our January signings Ashley Barnes, and new recruits Michael Kightly, Marvin Sordell and Lukas Jutkiewicz in being committed to us for the next three years.
Other deals are ongoing I'm told. Players such as Ben Mee and Dean Marney have only one year remaining whilst goalkeeper Tom Heaton has one year plus a year's option.
Heaton signed a year ago with this one year option, but it is never explained. Is the year in the club's favour or the player's? When we signed Zavon Hines back in 2011 it was reported as a two year deal. it transpired it was one year plus one year with the club opting not to take up the second year.
Michael Duff, however, was able to activate the extra year himself because of appearances, when he signed a new one year plus one in 2012.
With Heaton I've no idea, but it now looks as though it matters not with the Lancashire Telegraph reporting that he's set to sign a new contract, possibly as early as next week when he returns from Austria.
We'll have to wait and hear the news on that but I don't think there will be many, if at all any, Burnley fans who won't be delighted to hear that Heaton will be extending his Turf Moor stay.
There has still been no official news on whether Tom Anderson, Jason Gilchrist, Steven Hewitt and Cameron Howieson have signed their new deals or whether Jadan Hall, who was offered one and then removed from the list of names by the club, has signed a deal.
The Telegraph again have reported that Hewitt has signed a two year contract and Anderson for one year whilst Clarets Mad understand Hall, who suffered a serious injury last summer, has been given a contract until January to try and win a longer deal.
We'll hopefully be able to clear some of these up soon.
