Oh, no not there again

For the fourth time in succession we are off to the Isle of Man to play in a tournament we hardly try to win. And for those supporters who enjoy a few days away in July it is once again the same old boring venue. This is an island that fails to even make reference to football on its official web site, more interested in scuba diving, climbing and fishing alongside its TT Races.

There were murmurs of discontent when we returned in 2001, shouts of disbelief when we dared to go again in 2002 so the reaction this time is more than understandable. And ‘Oh, no not there again’, has been the most polite and the one we are able to use.

Of course this time it is going to be more exciting because there is a big club in the tournament – none other than fellow First Division club Rotherham United, well that should ensure massive support for the games.

Blackpool will be there along with Rushden & Diamonds as well as the two local teams Wrexham and the Isle of Man. Let’s face it would it be worthwhile at all if Wrexham weren’t there. Mind you even Oldham have in the last couple of years called time on it.

Stan likes it, even though he does wander off home for various reasons whilst the players are there. He even gives it a mention in his book, a suggestion that his Bury players were not over the moon about being there.

But once again the supporters will think they have been let down. It is either a trek to the same old place or not bothering to watch the team. And for some not bothering to watch the team is a decision they cannot make and they will have to put up with the Isle of Man again.
