Wes gets the goal that matters

Promotion chasing Rotherham were 2-0 up in the first half with Adam Le Fondre having scored both goals and by the time Grimsby struck the game was all but over.

The goal though was the first in league football for Burnley's Wes Fletcher who began a month on loan with Grimsby a week earlier. He made his debut as a substitute against Cheltenham a week last Saturday and yesterday was again used as a sub, coming on with just over twenty minutes to go.

Wes, to the right of goal, got onto a through ball from Adam Proudlock and hit a low shot from the edge of the box across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner of the net. It was a typical Wes Fletcher goal.

It was a poor performance overall by the Mariners, but manager Neil Woods said: "The goal was a good goal. Wes took it extremely well."

Fletcher, still 18, will be hoping to get a place in the starting line up next week at Aldershot.
