What the City fans think of Andy Morrison

We described him as a player who failed to make an impact at Maine Road after signing from Huddersfield Town for £80,000 in November 1998. This was based on the fact that in well over two years at Maine Road Morrison only played in 37 league games for City. In the season just finished he made three Premiership appearances but played more games in division three (with Blackpool) and division one (with Palace and Sheffield United) on loan.

However we have received a number of emails from Manchester City supporters who have been quick to tell us that Morrison did make an impact.

Julian Douglas told us, “He was the figure head for the team in back to back promotions, and was made captain of the team! He picked up an injury that put him out for a long time, then never managed to recover his place for any length of time in the team once City were promoted to the Premiership. But he was outstanding in Div II and Div I. He'd make a much better signing than Tony Grant too!”

And from Doug Bennett of the Blue View web site at www.blueview.co.uk, “Not true. Actually Morrison had a BIG impact at Maine Road. He was a talisman to fans and player alike and was pivotal in us obtaining promotion from Div 2 to Div 1 and during the first three months of the Div 1 promotion campaign - before he sustained a serious injury. He would be an excellent acquisition for anybody, particularly on a free.”

Thanks to Julian and Doug for those comments and we are delighted to be able to put things right on Andy Morrison and Manchester City.
