Cotterill pleased with cup win

There’s been no word yet from youth coach Terry Pashley or Head of Youth Development Vince Overson but the two of them must have been thrilled with the performance the lads gave them last night.

Steve made his way down to the touchline towards the end, and it is no wonder he was pleased with what he’d seen and today he said, “We were delighted with it and it was great for the lads. I thought they showed great courage and character last night because, without a shadow of a doubt, Fulham will have better individual players.

“I thought our team spirit was fantastic, it was a good win and great for Pash and Vince. There’s a good draw waiting for them in the next round and that’s got to be played by 4th February, so we just hope it is a good game for them.”

The Fulham staff were also impressed with the way we played. Ray Lewington, the former Watford manager, was there and enthusing about our performance whilst it was left to Academy Manager John Murtough to give their club’s official reaction.

He said, “Burnley probably deserved it through sheer effort and determination. Our lads had an opportunity to progress but that is what football is all about. It is not just about being able to beat Premiership sides, you also have to go to places like Burnley where it is going to be a bit of a fight.

“Unfortunately, some of our lads didn’t step forward last night and hopefully they can learn some lessons from this.”

For the young Clarets it is now a matter of waiting for another week to see who we will face, either Liverpool or Ipswich. The Suffolk side are expected to be the favourites to go through at Anfield next Thursday and are current holders of the FA Youth Cup.
